About the program
This program is the first step toward a career as a family physician or specialist. It provides the foundational knowledge needed to understand health problems, conduct clinical assessments, and guide care decisions. Combining medical science learning with the development of interpersonal skills, it prepares students to communicate effectively with patients, work as part of a team, and consider the social, cultural, and human dimensions of health, with the goal of training competent and empathetic physicians.
After the doctorate, training continues through a clinical residency of about two years in family medicine and five years or more in other specialties. This step is required to practise medicine independently.
